Lived Hospitality

We are pleased to introduce to you Franco Gilly, the gentleman in the middle. Franco Gilly is a true Sils local, who grew up as the son of the postmaster of Sils-Baselgia, in the immediate vicinity of Hotel Randolina. Our families have therefore known and trusted each other for a long time.

These are, we believe, the best prerequisites for what we are now tackling together: Franco Gilly will be entrusted, alongside Tomas Courtin, with the operational management of our establishment, and he is excellently prepared for this. He has gained knowledge and experience, for example as a certified tourism specialist HF, as a member of the management of the St. Moritz Ski School, as a private client advisor at Graubündner Kantonalbank, as a member of the board of trustees of the Biblioteca Engiadinaisa, and as the long-standing managing director of Hotel Privata in Sils-Maria.

His language skills have also come into play: Romansh, German, Italian, French, and English are all very familiar to him. Franco Gilly lives with his family in Maloja; now he is returning with one foot to Sils-Baselgia, as host at Hotel Randolina, for the first time during the 2025 summer season.

Our thinking
and actions

Hospitality

What does it take for friendship to develop between hotel and guest? Or between host and guest? Good conditions seem to us to be in place when, for example, the place is characterized by independence and the people by generosity and discretion. When personality is more important than prestige, life stories more valuable than life achievements. When a conversation at eye level and in mutual goodwill carries more weight than pure material things. And so we repeatedly try anew to make it possible for the needs and wishes of our guests to become experiences they would not want to miss, and for their ideas of successful and relaxing days to be fulfilled—indeed, for their expectations sometimes even to be exceeded.

The sense of connection

We do not walk our path alone. Farmers and suppliers in the region, craftsmen, architects, and creatives in all fields accompany us and contribute to our success. This applies to a great extent to our employees and – most importantly – also to our guests. Mutual appreciation is part of our shared success. Appreciation means, for example, encounters at eye level, respect, and keeping one’s word. From this, a sense of connection arises, and this creates trust.

Tradition and Innovation

Giving a place its own character, creating something individual, also means taking the risk of renouncing convention. Those who look beyond their own horizons turn them into a springboard. Tradition has its value and remains a source of inspiration; new forms that contribute to the atmosphere find space with us. In doing so, we are guided by colors, shapes, and materials, by a style that relates to our surroundings.

Time for quality

In many places there is a sense of hectic rush, with the motto «higher-further-faster-better» setting the pace. We make use of the privilege of being able to work at our own, appropriate speed. This way, we take plenty of time with innovations and plan carefully. In conversation with the guest, attentive listening makes needs and wishes clear; they flow into our reflections, we spin ideas further, let them mature; some are realized, others discarded. In what is ultimately implemented with care, there is room for improvement.

History

The large farmhouse in Sils-Baselgia was built in 1906, and since the Courtin family also ran a farming business, it had a large cowshed as well as a typical hay barn; on the north side were the kitchen and simple rooms for employees.

In 1918, the son Andrea Courtin took over the business with his wife Ursula Fausch. The childless couple took in 1936, after the death of the biological mother, Mrs. Courtin’s two godchildren, Andrea and Verena.
